Wildlife Artist, Kerry Ann Lyons has a real passion for painting wildlife. Using vibrant colours in her work to create paintings that will look amazing in your home/office.

Kerry is a totally self-taught fine art wildlife artist. Her love for nature & animals has always been at the forefront of her art. David Attenborough has always been someone she has admired and is astounded by the biodiversity in habitats and the way animals and birds have inbuilt knowledge to survive and protect themselves.

She tries to capture the essence of the animal first by making sure they eyes of the animals are truly capturing the mood and character of the creature. Tone & value and colour choice in a composition is key to making a unique painting. Starting with a plain grey background makes the actual animal be the feature of the painting. Form & Shape then play a big part in choosing how to start a new piece of artwork. Researching animals behaviour until she has a look that she feels will make a captivating painting.

Next she works by blocking in 2 vibrant gouache colours for each animal that compliment each other and will suit the type of animal she is working on. Once she has left this to dry, she starts working on the doodle art part of the body first, sometimes using similar doodles for the habitat and ecosystem that the animal lives in. For example the sea turtle Kerry has used; dolphins, sharks, jellfish & various other sea creatures for the doodle art body.

After this step is completed the exciting part of painting the animals eye in detail starts. Blocking in a wash of colours for the furs background comes next. When this is dry she can start working on detailing in all of the fur or feathers. Some animals and birds take longer than others to complete depending on the complexity of strokes and colour palette required.
